Student Expo: A Visual Exploration of Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry
When and Where
Description
The students of DRM354 (together with their instructor) are hosting an informal gathering and showcase of their set and costume designs for Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry. The Design Studio is open Friday Jan. 18th (starting after town hall) from 2:30-5pm for everyone interested in the design process and what it takes to create a visual world based on a script. The students will be there to talk about their projects and answer your questions, over sweet snacks and light beverages.
By including Ubu Roi as a design project in our curriculum, the University of Toronto and Drama Centre joined the larger community of international educational institutions and took part at PQ Studio: Common Studio Project- student competition hosted by Prague Quadrennial 2019. The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space is the largest international exhibition and festival event dedicated to scenography, performance design and theatre architecture. The most successfully executed set and costume design for Ubu Roi from DRM354 will be the Drama Centre representative in the competition. Selected works will be exhibited at Prague Quadrennial, and chosen student designers will have an opportunity to receive feedback from renowned international performance designers.
Please join us in the Design Studio to support our courageous DRM354 class of designers and learn about their learning and creative journey from the class. Mark your calendars!
