Biography

Lisa Davenport is a PhD student at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies. She is an Ontario College of Teachers certified educator and has received her MA in Applied Theatre and Drama in Community Education from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.

Lisa is interested in the transformative potential of the drama classroom and how it fosters a sense of community. Her previous research explores the application of improvisational theatre and playfulness as a pedagogical tool in community building and promoting an engaging learning environment.

She has worked with people of all ages to foster creativity, encourage curiosity, and form strong bonds between one another. Lisa has taught in traditional classrooms, facilitated creative play in community spaces, and loves spending her summers as a camp counsellor. Her artist educator journey has allowed her to cross paths with many organizations such as Young People’s Theatre, the Almeida Theatre, Half Moon Theatre, and the Canadian Improv Games.
