Laine Matkin

Laine Matkin is a MA student at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies. They recently graduated from the University of California Irvine, where they earned a BFA in Music Theatre. They are interested in the presence, and lack, of transgender actors in the world of American musical theatre. They hope to explore how the presence of these actors is affected by the capitalist political landscape of the United States, and they are also curious about how the performance of being transgender can affect the accessibility of roles for such actors in the musical theatre canon.
