Biography

Kate Pasula is a master’s student at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Toronto. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Honours English Literature and Theatre from The University of British Columbia and attended the University of Oxford during the summer 2022 semester taking courses in Modernist Literature and Moral Philosophy. Her research interests are centered around the historical tie between performance and accessibility and the creative ways in which theatrical and, more broadly, performance adaptations introduce stories to new audiences. Her undergraduate thesis studied adaptation theory with a focus on the mediums of poetry, music, and performance. She looked at the responsibility and creativity involved in re-engaging with the past, and the mechanisms of adaptation authors use to transform their source texts and re-introduce them through poetry, music, and performance.

Kate is a choral singer who has performed internationally. Her experience performing and travelling with choir has been impactful, and witnessing the effects of creating and sharing music and stories has significantly influenced her decision to pursue a career studying and practicing the performing arts.
