Biography

Elif Işıközlü directs for theatre, film and contemporary dance. Her short film series 4 ETUDES in the Key of Uncertainty merges camera, choreography, and occasionally Bach. 4 ETUDES screenings include: Dance on Camera New York, Video Danza Buenos Aires, Vo’Arte Lisbon, Dance Media Japan, FIFA Montreal, Worldwide Short Film Festival Toronto, Tiny Dance San Francisco and Golden Sheaf Best Experimental Short Nominee Etude II: LET GO featured in the Vancouver Olympics 2010 Cultural Olympiad Digital Edition. Theatre directing credits include Michel Ouellette's Cercles Polaire (Zones Théatrâles), Arrabal's Le Cimetière des voitures (Comédie des deux rives), pebbled multi-media installation, fFIDA Toronto and MFA Thesis production, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She is a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab New York, alumni of the Canadian Stage RBC Emerging Artist Director Development Residency Program, Canada Council and Ontario Arts Council grant recipient and co-founder of Directors Lab North, Toronto.  Primary research interests include the nature of creativity and its manifestation at the crux of art, science and performance.
